Emem Isong launches Ayamma

Four years after working on a movie, Emem Isong, a renowned film producer has officially launched her latest piece titled AYAMMA.

Isong made this known at a press conference held yesterday at the Silverbird Galleria, Ahmadu Bello Way Victoria Island Lagos.

The movie directed by Chris Eneaji and produced by Emem Isong is an epic love story that interspersed music and dance. The drama is laced with humor as Imeh Bishop Umoh plays a role as a village drunk.

According to Isong, Ayamma is a cultural renaissance of the African heritage mirrored in the rich culture of the Ibibio people. She said: ‘’the movie is a reminder of the history and culture of the Ibibio and was shot In Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. It is very apt in the moment that we are because we are celebrating made in Nigeria so I feel it’s a way my preserve and protect out culture.

‘’I chose my characters because most of them have theater background and they are people who are very good when they want to deliver. ‘’
Emem Isong who has constantly proven herself as an icon to reckon with in Nollywood, following her success in movies like ‘Knocking On Heaven’s Gate’, ‘Apaye’, ‘Champagne’, and a host of others has promised that Ayamma would be a piece that will thrill the audience in the most unexpected way.

The private viewing of the movie is slated to hold on December 18th 2016 while the cinema premiere will take place on the 23rd of December 2016.
Speaking at the conference, the lead character Adesua Etomi shared her thoughts on how exited she felt about the movie. She said: ‘’I was so happy because I had to learn the songs, dance, and the language in three days. Also the fact that I had always wanted to get the chance to do an epic, so when I learned I was going to get the chance to do that I was so excited but scare because there was I had to play three characters and it was tasking.

‘’Nothing was lacking the movie because my producer knew exactly what she wanted and my director also had a vision for this project already so I basically walked into an already set vision but they were not too rigid because if I wanted to give an idea, he’ll buy it.’’

On what inspired the movie Amaya, Chidi Vivian, the writer said: ‘’sometimes I allow the story to take me. My producer wanted a story that was related with culture and love so I think we did that and a whole lot more because we have other genres like the romance, we have the mystery and a whole lot of things going. So I let the story take me because I had moments when I went through the script and I’m like what did I write?’‘

The event attracted producers, scriptwriters, media personalities and sponsors amongst others.
Other cast members present at the conference include, Wale Ojo, Majid Michel, starring upcoming actors like Theresa Edem and Will Samuel.
