Ford Foundation, The Future Project hold youth leadership boot camps

The Ford Foundation in collaboration with The Future Project will be holding a youth camp for leadership and civic engagement, which is designed to increase young people’s engagement starting from the local to the federal level.

The 5-day intensive leadership program will enable young leaders play a major role in agitating for greater accountability within their respective local governments.

Topics to be covered include; budget and budget monitoring, negotiation and conflict management, communication skills, local government and its operations, use of technology as well as lead movements in their local communities to achieve accountability at all levels of government etc. The training will also feature top-notch facilitators from a wide range background to share their insights.

The Youth boot camp for leadership and civic engagement started in Abeokuta, Ogun State from June 28 to end in July 2, 2017. The Lagos State edition holds between July 4 to 8, while Ibadan, Oyo State will hold between July 11 and 15, 2017.

Participants who have exceptional leadership profile as well as ability to impact their community, state or the nation should apply for this program, though only successful applicants will be contacted.

Amongst confirmed facilitators are: Seun Onigbinde Cofounder of BudIT; Mr Olusegun Clement, special adviser on youth and student matters in Ogun state; Former governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Otunba Gbenga Daniel; Basorun Adekunle Oladeji Chairman, Aare Latosa, Ibadan; Dayo Israel chairman aspirant for Lagos mainland; Hon. Victor Fasanya member of Ogun state house of assembly Abeokuta-south; Yemi Adamolekun founder of Enough Is Enough Nigeria; Demola Olarewaju political strategist &analyst; and more.

The Future Project has a mandate to build empowered citizens across Africa, through (inclusive) enterprise and (active) citizenship. This focus on Human Capital Development is informed by our value proposition: Africa’s growth needs a generation of young people who are gainfully employed and able to demand and secure better leadership.

Projects include Aiki.ng, an employability portal presented with Microsoft; the Nigeria Symposium for Young & Emerging Leaders, #StartupsAfrica, Intern4Jobs, YMonitor.org presented with National Endowment for Democracy (NED), The Future Enterprise Support Scheme and The Future Awards Africa, described as ‘The Nobel Prize for Young Africans’.

Founded by the Chude Jideonwo and Adebola Williams, TFP is supervised by a Global Board of Advisors drawn from Africa, Europe, North America and the Middle East, including the Coordinating Minister of the Nigerian Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Senior Economic Advisor with the Open Society Foundations, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili; co-founder of ONE, Jamie Drummond and the Chief of Cabinet with the Africa Development Bank, Anne Kabagambe.
