Foundation moves to equip 1,000 children with back-to-school kits

Determined to ensure no child is left behind as a new school year approaches, educator and social impact advocate, Imuetinyan-Osa Idemudia, has launched a bold campaign to provide 1,000 less privileged children in Ikorodu, Lagos State, with essential back-to-school kits.

As the founder of Feed-A- Child Nigeria, a project under the REST Foundation, Idemudia has spent the past five years feeding, clothing, and equipping vulnerable children with basic school supplies.

Her journey began in 2019 during her NYSC service year in Lafia, Nasarawa State. Just a month into her posting, and in celebration of her 21st birthday, she organised the first edition of Feed-A-Child Nigeria with the mission to give back to the community by reaching street children and rural communities who lacked food and basic necessities.

With just ₦50,000, pooled from her own pocket and contributions from friends and family, the initiative was able to feed 200 children — with their first visit held at Habo Orphanage Home in Lafia.

Since that modest beginning, the NGO has consistently carried out outreach programmes across Lafia, reaching orphanages, hospitals, and underserved neighbourhoods. They have distributed food, clothing, toiletries, and school supplies to hundreds of children each year.

One shining story is that of Abraham, a one-year-old orphan when the team first visited Habo Orphanage. Six years later, Abraham is healthy, joyful, and has started school — proof that consistent care, no matter how small, can create meaningful change.

For the sixth edition of the project, Idemudia is taking the initiative to Ikorodu, Lagos, with an ambitious new goal – to raise ₦15 million to support 1,000 children with full back-to-school kits.

Each kit will include a school bag, exercise books, writing materials, sandals, and food items.

“I believe education is the foundation for a better future. Every child deserves the chance to go to school equipped and confident. We’re inviting good-hearted Nigerians to help us make that happen,” Idemudia said.

She added that the initiative contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, 3, 4 and 10. “The call to action is open to individuals, organisations, and brands willing to make a difference. With school resumption around the corner, Feed-A-Child Nigeria is working tirelessly to meet its fundraising goal and ensure the children of Ikorodu are not left behind,” she disclosed.
