To foster the mutual relationship between Nigeria and India, Indian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Importers in Nigeria in collaboration with Special Doctors and Paramedics from visiting Indian Naval Ship, INS Tushil (The Protector Shield) recently organised Free Health Camp for the residents of Ilupeju Estate and its environs.
The number of beneficiaries earlier scheduled for 300 rose up to about 500 as a large number of members of the community besieged the camp where services such as general health check-ups, specialist consultations, free basic medications (subject to availability), health awareness sessions were rendered.
The event, which held at the Sura Mogaji Park, Ilupeju, Lagos, Nigeria was attended by Consul General of India Chandramouli Kern, who noted that he was happy about the collaboration, which impacted favourably on the members of the community.
Vice President, IPMIN, Hermanth Sharma said the health camp was organised consequent upon the mutual relationship that had been existing between the two countries a long time ago.
General Secretary, IPMIN, Venket Subramanian, described the exercise as part of the corporate social responsibility of IPMIN to give back to Nigerians and in particular to members of Ilupeju Estate community and its environs. He also linked this with the belief of Indians that the entire world is a global community, which compels everyone to be his brother’s keeper.
He expressed satisfaction at the large turnout of the people, which went beyond the number earlier fixed, adding that the cost of the project was not what matters but the health of the people.
Former Chairman, Ilupeju Estate Landlords and Residents Association, Bayo Osiyemi, said he responded positively to the demand of the organisers to mobilise the people and that the exercise has gone a long way to saving lives as most beneficiaries could not afford the cost of the free services rendered.
IPMIN Executive Committee Coordinator, Suresh Nair said the free drugs were donated by members of IPMIN who are committed to the welfare of the members of the communities among whom they also live.
