In the burgeoning skincare industry in Nigeria where many players are playing along as buyers and sell skincare products, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Rixari Skin Secrets Rita Chika Ebigbagha has made a name for herself as a Mesotherapist, Laser Technician and esthetician. In this interview, she explains what it all entails and its importance to skin health.

According to the woman from Obowo, Imo State, born and bred in Kubwa, Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory, her job is all about beauty involving the skin.

“As an esthetician, there are a number of duties I carry out on my clients. These duties include but not limited to Microdermabrasion, Chemical peels, Laser resurfacing, Laser skin rejuvenation, Light therapy, Waxing/threading/chemical hair removal, Facials, Face and body masks and wraps, Manual or mechanical extraction, Pore cleansing, Body scrubs and other types of exfoliation, Acne treatments, etc, she said.

She explained that Mesotherapy is part of aesthetics medicine.

“It is a modern form of therapy that consists of injecting medicines, vitamins and minerals as close as possible to the area that needs treatment. It is an astonishingly effective technique in aesthetic medicine as it treats layers of the skin, which are hardly penetrated by other non-invasive treatments. Some of the functions I carry out as a mesotherapist are: facial rejuvenation, mesolift, mesobotox, and mesotherapy to treat cellulite,” she said.

She also added that she is a certified laser technician, with major expertise in the use of lasers to treat skin conditions in order to target and repair specific problem areas without harming the surrounding area.

“Basically, there are two types of lasers: Ablative lasers and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) lasers. This type of treatment removes the thin outer layer of the skin, while heating the underlying skin and stimulating collagen production. The other laser treatment is the Non-ablative lasers which are less invasive. They stimulate collagen growth without wounding the skin.

“In Rixari Skin Secrets, we particularly carry out laser skin ‘resurfacing’ which could be done either by ablative or non-ablative lasers. The outcome of the therapy gives an improved skin appearance and clears minor facial flaws.

“Generally, Laser treatment helps in minimizing fine lines, wrinkles, skin lesions, etc. laser skin treatments offer a variety of cosmetic benefits, such as skin resurfacing and skin tightening,” she said.

She asserted that as an esthetician, mesotherapist, laser technician and a formulator, the recommendation of products and services considering skin types, texture and condition is her priority.

“There are several methods in achieving the same purpose. For instance, a laser application can increase collagen as well as the use of cream. I use the best method that suits the condition, age, severity and affordability of my services,” she said.

Rita Chika Ebigbagha is an alumnus of Federal University of Owerri with a degree in Agricultural Economics and presently undergoing her Masters degree in Business Administration.

She was born in Abuja, Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory. She hails from Obowo, Imo State. She is married with four children.
