Waji-Mh’s ‘Forever’ is a beautiful sonic voyage

The Nigerian-born singer, O. Jean Isekhure, who is better known in the music industry as Waji-Mh, has continued to make his mark in the overpopulated Afrobeats industry. The artists who tend to explore R&B more, seem to be more into their feelings in recent times. He is the classic example of what a lover boy sound like.

Vulnerability is something a lot of Nigerian artiste run away from. Men are less likely to be emotional in their doing. Even when they are obviously in love with a girl, they find it difficult to be open or direct about it. They are mostly coy lovers.

Waji-Mh doesn’t fall into this category. He is your typical lover, the one unafraid to tell the world how a girl makes him feel. He copiously expresses his feeling, urge and emotion. His new single ‘Forever’, aptly captures this trait. The song which was released on July 11, 2024 is a fantastic breath of sonic range.

The song is a fusion of different strains of genre, it moves from R&B to Afrobeats and then stops at Dancehall. It’s that distinct. The impact of the backup singer might be minimal yet it is so beautiful that you tend to appreciate it, smartly the production of the song is arranged in such a way that it doesn’t overshadow the main artiste vocal. Everything seems to lightly play out.

Waji-Mh sings in Pigdin English and English Language. He levitates between both means of communication exploring flowery words. The J-Flex produced song is a perfect wedding song. It seems the artiste deliberately curated this song for conjugal bliss.

‘Forever’, is in phases, the opening verse takes the listeners through the back stories, how they met, how she makes him feel, by the time the song gets to the second verse, it is a different ball game as the artiste enters his vulnerability state, he showered encomium on her.

Waji-Mh is in love, he is not ashamed to say this. He beautifully celebrates his lover, revealing how she makes him feel. With the help of this simple, fused beat, he tends to go over the board and also delivers. All in all, it is a good song that would be around for a long time. Beyond the topic which the artist explored, it is also down to the delivery. The thoughtfulness expended on it makes it more likely to be repeated whenever anyone presses the play button.

R&B might be a dying genre around the world yet in Nigeria, there is a guy called Waji-Mh who seems to be bent to resuscitating the genre, with support from his contemporaries, the genre might finally be getting the publicity its lacking.

Waji-Mh has already carved a niche for himself, he sounds like an artiste suited for stardom. While he has released singles, a body of work should be released. This way the fans would be able to get more dose of his message and perhaps one day, the world would celebrate the brilliancy of this artiste.
