WITH Great Power Comes Greater Responsibility

‘And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

(2 Corinthians 12:9-10 KJV)
We are naturally inclined to do things we find appropriate and to do things the way we find most comfortable, but when it comes to doing the will of God, there are no excuses; Why? Because we are not to depend on our human strength or capacities but on His abundant grace that is more than enough for every need. In fact, the things that we do in our own natural energy are reprobate (rejected, unapproved and worthless) in His sight. (Titus 1:16)

If even Jesus would not make an offering to God without the eternal Spirit, who are we to shun the gift and help of the Holy Spirit? We are not to be ignorant about what the will of God is, but to find out what they are and do them willingly – in all of His energy.

Learning How Not To Fear
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

(Hebrews 11:6 ESV)
The opposite of fear is faith – specifically faith in God. Faith is a free gift from God which you are given when you come to Him. Your going to Him is based on your concept of Him – that He exists and that He rewards those who know this and seek Him out. Now, if you are already born again then you have the measure of faith. You now have to exercise your faith to achieve greater things. This is where experience will come in very handy.

Do not be afraid of change. Every child of God overcomes this world. That is a fact. If that is true then anyone who shrinks back for any excuse whatsoever is just plain old lazy – idle and slothful.

The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road! There is a lion in the streets!”

(Proverbs 26:13 ESV)
The only way you’re going to renew your mind – the only way you will teach yourself how not to fear is to step up and step out. Take it for granted that you will succeed and go after your vision. Never despise your small beginnings, never. And never turn down an opportunity for practical application if you can help it.

A lot of us make the mistake of looking down on what we believe are small experiences especially compared to what we perceive as the benefit or trouble compared to the lesson. Trouble (I’m using this word loosely), is actually an opportunity to those who face it squarely in the face. David was faithful in the humble task his father gave him. He was so looked down on by his father and brothers that the prophet had to ask Jesse if he had another son before he remembered David in the fields.

Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your sons here?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and get him, for we will not sit down till he comes here.” And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the LORD said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

(1 Samuel 16:11-13 ESV)
You see, we are all approved of or disapproved of by God. You can only go so far with trying to make something of yourself without God but time and chance happen to all men.

Look how God patiently waited for the servant He approved! This one who was faithful in the humble task that life doled out to him was the one that met the requirements of ruling a nation.

How about experience? Hear this:
And David said, “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”…

(1 Samuel 17:37 ESV)
David got the faith he needed to face a giant while keeping sheep. He had experienced the deliverance of God from both a lion and a bear and therefore had confidence and faith that God was his strength. So by all means, dream big; but remember you wouldn’t have the confidence to face the giants against your vision if you do not partake of lesser experiences.

Image and Etiquette: As a young lady, I suffered much from inferiority and timidity. I had an unhealthy distrust of myself and God-given beauty. By God’s grace, I found answers in the Bible (especially the Songs of Solomon) which transformed me. His Word transformed me from a bitter, angry teenager to a cheerful, content, peace-filled and purposeful woman; Jesus changed me from the inside out. I have a passion for etiquette and image and I know that our outward image and our attitudes are influenced by our heart; therefore, image and etiquette is spirit, soul and body – just as it was in the beginning! Having been given the knowledge, experimental application and experience through His grace alone, this is what I teach. Unconventional…yes, but it remains the truth to the degree that I have understood it. For this, I make no apologies.
