Nyesom-WikeRIVERS State residents have charged the newly appointed ministers to swing into action and bring the much-expected changes.

Some of the residents including university lecturers, lawyers, businessmen and artisans noted that the problems of Nigerians are enormous and need to be addressed urgently.

A senior lecturer in the Department of Economics, University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Peter Medee said, Nigeria has been in a situation characterised by the recession, slow in economic activities, employment among others.

He stressed the need for the ministers to stimulate spending expansion through fiscal policies. He maintained that the move would mitigate the effect of single treasury account which is a restrictive monetary policy.

Similarly, a lawyer and the executive director of Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian law, Anyakwee Nsirimovu said, the economy is in a very bad shape, stressing that nothing is working and hence; implored all the ministers including the president to do everything humanly possible to ensure the citizens’ security.

“When I say security, I mean there is need to ensure that everything that makes life beautiful is provided for the citizens, therefore all the ministers should work together with the president to achieve the target.”

Also speaking a trader at Mile three market, Mrs Ngozi Obi said, “we don’t see the train always, it should be steady, more train terminals should be created and the aviation sector should be totally overhauled”

On his part, Kingsley Nwoke, a student said, “ there should be massive housing for Nigerians, it is bad that people are still sleeping under the bridge in this country”,

Other artisans also called for massive focus massively agriculture, minerals and power.

“People should be able to feed them selves, buy food locally in this country” said, Mrs. Adanna Uzoma, a farmer.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has charged the Minister of Transport, Chibuike Amaechi to hasten to direct his attention to issues that need his urgent attention as the man saddled with running the strategically important ministry.

In a statement signed by the state Chairman of APC, Davies Ikanya noted that he (Amaechi) is assuming office as Minister of Transport at a time when the Port Harcourt International Airport is rated as the worst in the world and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the seventh worst on the African continent, while the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, is ranked 10th worst on the continent.

“This is not acceptable to us and we wish that Amaechi quickly corrects this shameful anomaly imposed on us by the immediate past visionless administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and his misguided Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” the party said.
