The Rotary Club of Festac Town has empowered pregnant mothers at Mile 2 Public Health Centre, Amuwo Odofin local council, Lagos with safe birth kits, and artisans in the Festac community with startup tools.
The Parish priest of Festac Town Holy Family Church, Rev Father Elvis Mayaiki, was also inducted as an honourary member of the club. Two other people, Virginia Morgan and Chinedu Udoh, were also inducted as members of the club.
This took place during the official visit of the District Governor of Rotary International District 9111, Rotarian Dr Wole Kukoyi to the club. The Irresistible president of Rotary Club of Festac Town, Rotarian Ademola Martins, noted that it was a rare privilege to host Kukoyi with two past district governors of District 9110, Rotarians Omotunde Lawson and Richard Giwa-Osagie, to mark the 2024-2025 Maternal and Child Health project.
Martins said that the Maternal and Child Health programme, which was conducted by the district assistant secretary, Cynthia Ekwueme, was one of the major focuses of Rotary.
The assistant regional coordinator for Region 22 and past district governor, Lawson said that when the DG goes out on club visit one thing that is always a thing of joy is to induct new members, because that is the number one thing of Rotary.
The Chief Matron of the Mile 2 Public Health Centre, Mrs. Kent Ogu, who commended the club for the gesture, said: “Rotary has been helping us a lot; we want them to continue. They always come to give us one thing or the other. They are doing greater things for us.”
