Stay warm, stylish in the rains

The rains are here again and a lot of people tend to get confused when it comes to what to wear on a wet day. In fact, some persons actually wear old clothing when it rains because they do not want their nice outfits to get drenched and stained.

Well, it’s no news that certain places can really get bad when it rains, but the good news is that you can be warm and stylish during the rains and still go about your normal activities.

Rain Jackets/Sweaters
There are different types of fashionable rain jackets you can get in the market. You could wear a light outfit inside and then put on a rain jacket so that when you get to your destination, you can take it off. You can get various colours, designs, lightweight but strong waterproof rain jackets with or without a hood. Sweaters are a must have this period. You can decide to pair up a sweater with your outfit or throw it around your neck in case of an emergency. Whatever you do, just make sure you have it around.

It’s ideal to put on shorts, trousers, and gowns made of quick-dry materials. Clothes made from cotton and light wool fabrics would be most ideal as cotton is soft and lightweight enough to keep you cool, but also a great conductor of heat. So, you don’t have to worry about getting cold outdoors.

Be sure to wear short or long sleeves too, depending on your body type, as they help circulate body heat better. You can also pair your sleeveless and short-sleeved dresses with a jean jacket you can easily pull off when the heat sets in.

Another great fabric for ideal clothes in this weather is polycotton, which has a lesser probability of irritating the skin as synthetic fibers do. You could never go wrong with jeans, cashmere or thick wool fabrics. Although most would prefer fleece to wool as it is lighter weight and softer, these are great conductors of heat that keep you insulated from the cold and damp. You might want to pair up your fleece and wool sweats with layers of cotton underneath, so you can pull them off when it gets hot.

YOU can choose to wear shirts of different lengths. Refrain from wearing white or similar outfits as they easily get stained. Instead, wear darker-colored clothing and pair with sweatshirts or cardigans.

Avoid wearing leather shoes, party and office shoes in the rain. Also, avoid shoes without good grip on slippery grounds as they have a great tendency to make you slip. Shoes like trainers and other types of sports shoes are not ideal during the rainy season because when it gets wet, it takes a longer time to get dry and if not properly dried, will smell and harbor germs, bacteria, and fungi. Go for water-friendly sandal and shoes/boots made of rubber.

ON days when the weather is acting funny and you just cannot tell if it is going to be a cold or hot day, you can rock a turtleneck. If it is cold, you can easily roll up the neck and arm sleeves and when it is hot, you can roll the sleeves back to place. Black is a good colour during the cold season as black outfits retain heat.

They come in very handy especially when you want to go to bed at night. You can decide to stick with the ones you wear to work or jazz things up a little with patterned knee-length socks. Socks are important as they not only keep you warm but are also a fashion accessory.
