Destiny Etiko Did Not Get It Right In Mgbechi Goes To School
Nollywood star, Destiny Etiko, is a fantastic actor, and she has a beautiful body to go with it too. What she may have to add to this mix is her production and directorial skills. And so, T4T was watching this Nollywood movie, titled, Mgbechi Goes To School, on Pay TV some couple of days ago. Directed by Destiny Etiko, the 2023 flick featured Jerry Williams, Eve Esin, Lizzy Gold and Destiny Etiko among others. Mgbechi Goes To School is the usual Nollywood movie, well, low budget movie if you know what T4T is talking about here, but Etiko who directed and produced the movie decided to be adventurous. So, she set the movie in the 60s. The Afro hairstyles and costumes of the actors all depicted what was in vogue in the 60s. But what aunty Destiny forgot to infuse in her movie are the houses and school uniforms. How can a movie set in the 60s have the houses with 2023 designs? The children are wearing school uniforms of 2023? And who told Destiny Etiko that ‘fufu’ was sold in nylons wrappers in the 60s? Guess Etiko did not do her research well, she is either too young or too lazy to know how school uniforms looked like in the 60s.
Is It True?
T4T does not really care about these foreign awards organisers that nominate Nigeria and African artistes. They do this to get the attention and viewership of Africans, only. This is T4T’s opinion anyway.
And this view may have been confirmed by the revelation that African (Nigerian) artistes are given their awards backstage in a quiet ceremony while the American artistes get theirs on stage with the world watching. It was revealed that Nigerian Arya Starr got her BET award backstage, and the category in which she won her award was not even mentioned publicly. While T4T will not agree with some Nigerian bloggers who call this treatment of our stars racist, he will only advise that these artistes begin to shun these awards ceremony until they are treated with some degree of respect unless there is a load of dollars accompanying these awards or they automatically open the doors of Aso Rock or the White House to the recipients…if not…
Ojude Oba, The Morning After
EVERY year, the Ojude Oba Festival of Ijebu people of South West Nigeria, grips the imagination of not only the Yoruba people but people from across the country who savour a taste of the cultural feast on social media.
There is always something to talk about after every year’s outing and a young lady who in the estimation of moralists and fashion policemen, dressed too revealing for the event, was the focus of this year’s event held last weekend. And T4T had to carefully use his forensic eyes to view what she wore. A skimpy skirt made from the traditional Aso Oke material and a knee length boots worn by ‘oyinbos’ in cold weathers. Aside from the boots being wrongly worn in a very hot Nigerian weather, nothing was really wrong with what she wore unless the gods of Ijebu has a dress code for Ojude Oba.
Let that young lady be, all ye moralists and fashion policemen.
Again, It Has Happened!
JUST last week, T4T told you about a gaffe even as he wondered who is in charge of subtitling of Yoruba movies as well as writing of movie synopsis on DSTV. Well, it has happened again. On Thursday, this particular movie, titled, The Witness, started airing from 6:00am. It was June 12 public holiday, so, T4T had the whole time in the world to kill. But first, T4T had to check the synopsis and this was what he saw: “Okey and Nonso ruthlessly murders their boss and his wife for financial gain. Their daughter stumbles upon the gruesome scene and becomes a target.” How two people take ‘murders’ their boss and his wife na? These embarrassing errors, when will they stop? Anyway sha, the movie was directed by Nellyann Chisom James and it starred Yul Edochie, Lizzy Gold, among others, so, if you want see how Okey and Nonso ‘murders’ their boss, go and watch it.
