Margaret Nwabanegba Achugbue-Okpomo Passes On

THE death has occurred of Madam Margaret Nwabanegba Achugbue-Okpomo. She died on June 14, this year, at 98 years. According to a statement by Mr. Godwin Achugbue-Okpomo on behalf of the families of Achugbue-Okpomo of Kokori in Ethiope East Local Government Area and Okuanyionu of Eboh-Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, the matriarch of the Achugbue-Okpomo family passed away peacefully in her sleep after a very fulfilled and happy day’s activity.

Margaret is survived by four children, two stepchildren, 14 grand children, six great-grandchildren, two brothers, four sisters, nephews and nieces among other relatives.

She was the mother of renowned football administrator, the late Patrick Okpomo, and grandmother of the Secretary of Warri Wolves Football Club Warri, Mr. Lawrence Omohwo. According to the statement, she was a devout member of Jehovah’s Witness, who took her religious beliefs and activities seriously.

“In fact, it was when she was being woken up on that faithful Sunday morning of June 14 to prepare for the day’s religious service that it was discovered that she had passed away peacefully in her sleep,” Achugbue-Okpomo said.

“She was a very industrious woman who applied the counsel of Proverbs Chapter 31 on the capable wife, who worked round the clock and provided for her household. From her youthful days, she worked hard to support her husband who was a civil servant.

In the early 1960s when her husband was not paid his salary for over nine months, she was able to care for the families’ needs and the children’s school fees from her business.

She was very innovative and was involved in several business ventures for which she was well known during her youthful days. Even in her old age, despite the objection of her children, she was still busy trading at the famous Kokori market that serves as a hub of food centre in the Urhobo area of Delta State.

A few weeks before her sudden death, she was still in the Kokori market with her usual wares,” Achugbue-Okpomo added. “For the children and her fellow believers, they look forward to seeing her again in the resurrection of the dead as promised in John 5:28,29 and Acts 24:15.”
