The association said the gesture was to encourage the pupils to focus on their studies and also alleviate the financial burdens of their parents in funding their education.

Two delegates of the association, Chief Nwabueze Edward and Mrs. Nnenna Chukwu Umahi, who visited the school recently to announce the payment, said they were also sent to liaise with the headmistress to know the school’s areas of need and how the association could help.

Nwabueze, who addressed journalists after meeting with the headmistress, said: “We learnt that some parents were running helter-skelter to raise the common entrance fee of their children. In fact, some pupils were at home due to their inability to pay. So, we came together and decided to take up the bill as a way of giving back to society and also encouraging the students to focus on their education. Some people drop out of school for little things like this and we don’t want that to happen to any pupil in this school.

“Also, we spoke with the headmistress on areas we can help and we will take our findings back to the association. Umuobuna/Uhuabaa Modern Primary School is our alma mater and we are willing and determined to give back to it.”

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Nkechinyere Harrison Okoro, thanked members of the association for remembering their alma mater, praying that God gives them the grace to accomplish their good desires for the school.
