Geely Galaxy, the flagship premium new-energy vehicle (NEV) brand of Geely Auto Group, has entered the Nigerian market through a strategic partnership with TIM Motors, marking a significant step in the country’s growing electric mobility landscape.
The launch, held in Lagos, under the theme: ‘Powering the Future’, saw the unveiling of three Geely Galaxy models — EX5 EM-i, EX5 and EX2 — designed to cater to different segments of Nigeria’s automotive market.
Geely, which owns globally recognised brands including Volvo Cars, Polestar and Lotus, has emerged as one of China’s leading automakers and a key player in the global transition to cleaner transportation.
The company sold more than 3.4 million vehicles globally, ranking among the world’s top automotive manufacturers.
Speaking at the launch, General Manager of the Passenger Vehicle Business Unit at TIM International, Leon Zhan, described the partnership as a major milestone in bringing advanced electric mobility solutions closer to Nigerian consumers.
According to him, TIM Motors has established the necessary support infrastructure to ensure a seamless ownership experience, including nationwide service centres, spare parts availability and warranty coverage.
“Electric vehicles represent the future of driving in Nigeria, and we are proud to bring that future closer to Nigerian consumers as the exclusive local partner of Geely Galaxy, a brand built on EV innovation, technology and performance,” Zhan said.
Among the vehicles unveiled, the EX5 EM-i combines petrol and electric power to deliver a driving range of more than 1,000 kilometres while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
The EX5 offers a premium mid-size SUV experience with advanced technology features and a driving range exceeding 430 kilometres.
The compact EX2 is positioned as an affordable all-electric hatchback designed for urban commuters seeking lower running costs and freedom from fuel price volatility.
Sales Lead at TIM Motors’ Abuja office, Stephanie Odia, highlighted the vehicles’ safety credentials, noting that the models are equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
She said the technology suite included automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot detection and 360-degree surround-view cameras.
Odia added that the vehicles were developed to address concerns frequently raised by Nigerian motorists, particularly around fuel costs, efficiency and compatibility with local infrastructure.
She said: “Geely Galaxy’s products strike a balance between performance, affordability and efficiency, while offering the advanced technology and safety features that modern consumers increasingly demand.”
TIM Motors was appointed Geely Galaxy’s exclusive distributor in Nigeria based on its established presence across Africa and its track record in vehicle sales, financing and aftersales support.
The company said the partnership is aimed at ensuring a reliable customer experience from vehicle purchase through long-term ownership.
With the debut of the Geely Galaxy, Nigerian buyers now have access to a broader range of electric and hybrid vehicle options as the market gradually embraces cleaner and more sustainable mobility solutions.
