Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc (SAHCO) has explained how it achieved new standards in ground handling operations, following its successful attainment of the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification.
SAHCO said the milestone was the result of deliberate institutional reforms, structured training and a company-wide culture shift towards proactive cybersecurity management.
A statement by the Head of Corporate Communications, SAHCO, Vanessa Uansohia, said the certification was a validation of its commitment to international best practices in protecting operational data, airline partner information, passenger records and regulatory communications.
The statement quoted Executive Director, SAHCO, Dr Babatunde Afolabi, as saying that the company’s approach went beyond technology upgrades.
Afolabi emphasised that information security was not just an IT function; rather, it was an organisational responsibility.
According to him, the journey to certification involved comprehensive risk assessments across SAHCO’s operational areas and the deployment of robust access and data protection controls.
Others are continuous system monitoring, as well as the development of incident response and business continuity frameworks aligned with international standards.
He further lauded the employees for their positive contributions towards the success of the new status.
He said: “Every employee plays a role in protecting our systems and customer data.
Through structured training, strict policies, and continuous monitoring, we have built a proactive security culture that supports safe, secure, and reliable aviation operations.”
ISO/IEC 27001:2022 is widely regarded as the global benchmark for information security management systems, providing organisations with a comprehensive framework for identifying risks, implementing controls and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of sensitive information.
