IBILE Pageant to promote arts, tourism
To promote arts and tourism in Lagos state as well as empower the girl child, the Queen of IBILE Pageant, an indigenous traditional concept wrapped around Lagos and its historical background based on its past and future, is set to kick off next month.
IBILE which is an acronym for Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos-Island and Epe, is an eight week long Television reality show, where 20 girls between ages 18 and 25 will compete to emerge as the Queen of IBILE.
At the unveiling of the project which is in partnership with the Lagos State Government, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), the Executive Producer of show and CEO of Platinum Entertainment Limited Olayinka Fatima Edu, said the show is inspired by various happenings in Lagos with its numerous unique festivals, myths and royal coronation. “As captured in our society today where there are societal and historical decadence coupled with misconceptions about the true identity of Lagos, the show will shed more light on the unique identity of IBILE and provide lots of historical insight on the administrative divisions of Lagos state with proper research and documentation gathered from the traditional rulers of each administrative division. Lagos in this project is placed on a platter as a tourist haven to be savored.”
Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Honourable Solomon Bonu also noted that the collaboration is an attestation that the Ministry welcomes innovations that complements the vision of this present administration for the advancement of Tourism, Arts and Culture in the State.
He said: “Beyond what Lagos is popularly known for in the area of commerce, trade and investment, it is also very instructive to emphasise the fact that Lagos State is a land of culture, arts and entertainment.
“Through this collaboration, we will be telling the entire world, what the spirit of Lagos truly represents. The story of Lagos and its cultural emancipation would be televised to the whole world with the intention of selling our rich cultural heritage to potential tourists through the engagement of representatives of all these five divisions known as Queen of IBILE.”
