Road to awareness hits Abuja today
The Coconut Garden of Sheraton Hotels and Towers. Abuja, will this day, play host to audience from every strata of the society as the 2017 Road to Awareness programme opens.
The programme was said to have debuted 10 years ago with a handful of senior associates of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, engaging on a three-day cycling challenge in the French Alps in aid of UNICEF.Designed to assist underprivileged children living in the communities that the hotels operate in, the sporting programme was said to have generated close to $7 million.
“This year, the campaign, which is now under the Marriott International umbrella, celebrated its 10th anniversary with a 600 kilometres cycle challenge through Jordan between October 12 and 14”, the hotel stated.
According to the General Manager, Sheraton Abuja Hotel, Nouman Irshad, Abuja team would be hosting a fitness-fun sports today beginning from 11am.
“We will feature various sporting activities and competitions for adults and children for a small fee. The funds raised through this registration will be handed over to UNICEF for the cause.
“Exciting games and activities to look out for include dance aerobics, relay races, tug-of-war, egg toss and three-legged man race. There will also be sack race as well as obstacle course”, the manager said. Meanwhile, winners in the various activities will go home with fantastic prizes, the hotel assured.
