The music industry is arguably more global now than ever before, and all eyes are on Africa for new popular artistes.

For some years now, we’ve seen some Nigerian artistes, including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido and Mr. Eazi, broke into the global mainstream.

On this premise, Ghana-born singer, songwriter and fashionista, Paul Nii Amu Andrew Darko, better known as Darkovibes, has again come through with a new party anthem entitled Je M’appelle.

The new hit, done in collaboration with Nigerian superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, was produced by Ghana’s MOG Beatz. It was built on an infectious and high-pitched synth beat, over which both Darkovibes and Davido traded verses before going into the French chorus.

The new release is also accompanied by a new music video, directed by Jay Vertex, which solidifies the party’s energy of the tune and sees both Darkovibes and Davido donning traditional Ghanaian attire.

Darkovibes is coming off a busy 2020, having released two projects, the acclaimed Kpanlogo album and The Cornerstone EP. His music is categorised as experimental, blending highlife, hip-hop and rap.

Speaking on the synergy between the Nigerian music industry and that of his country, Darkovibes said: “Nigeria and Ghana are similar in some regards, but very different in others. What I think people don’t realise is that the Accra and Lagos inspirational exchange has been strong for some time now.

“We inspire Nigerians and they inspire us. So at a local level, we’ve been working a lot together for some time. Also, like Nigeria, Ghana is a hub; many people travel through here and there are many Ghanaians spread far and wide in the world.”
