For many who attended mostly boarding schools in the 80s and 90s, the girls in particular, the story of ‘Madam Koi Koi’ or ‘Miss Koi Koi’ is one they will never forget. The story delves into the legendary myth of a dead woman’s spirit known as Madam Koi Koi, who was believed to lurk around the halls of boarding schools.

To re-awaken the story, the filmmaker, Jay Franklyn Jituboh, in collaboration with Dale Falola, bring to fore this mysterious and scary tale that has been passed from generation to generation in the Nigerian secondary school system in a movie format titled, The Origin: Madam Koi Koi.

The two-part Netflix film and Nollywood’s first horror movie attempts to fill the many gaps in the legendary tale. The first part, which revolves around Amanda, a teenage girl who finds it difficult to fit into her new boarding school, St Augustine Catholic College was released on Tuesday October 31, on the global streaming platform and in the cinema. The second part will be released on Tuesday, November 7.
