The entire gold coast stood still on Thursday, as prominent American rapper Meek Mill graced the stage at the annual Afronation festival, at the Black Star Square, in Accra, Ghana, for his debut performance on the continent. The Dream Chasers founder, who has worked with Davido in the past, thrilled the vibrant mixed race crowd with some of his most popular hits.
Meek Mill, who sadly was pick-pocketed shortly before his performance, brought on an enigmatic stagecraft to Afronation, swaying the crowd who sang some of his most popular jams word for word including Dreams and Nightmares, Tap, among others.
Mill, who touted that he believes his ethnicity is rooted in Ghana, thanked the audience – which was a balance of Europeans, West Africans and Americans – for their warmth and hospitality. Barring the stolen phone, which Ghanaian rapper Shatta Wale helped in retrieving, on Friday, Meek Mill spoke highly of his stay in Ghana.
Other intriguing performances from the night include Tiwa Savage’s energetic outing, as the Afrobeats’ queen removed her thigh-high boots to thrill the audience with both nostalgia and excitement. Performing her Asake-assisted jam, Loaded, the mother-of-one reminded fans of her traumatic sextape leak, saying that sometimes people can turn a bad situation into motivation for growth.
The loverboy maestros Ckay and Oxlade dazzled the crowd with their global hits respectively, warming the crowd up for the closing performance from the twin duo, P-Square.
Interestingly, P-Square, as they have been doing since their return last year, apologised to fans for their 5-year split.
“We are sorry we have denied you good music for this long,” Mr P of the duo said.
The Afronation festival is an annual celebration of black music across major cities in the world, including Portugal, United States and Ghana.
