Hard-hitting bars. Port Harcourt-flavoured Pidgin lingo. And unique vocal inflections. These are a few of the offerings that make the Abuja-based rapper Odumodublvck (pronounced Odumodublack) stand out as a breath of fresh air in Africa’s Hip-Hop scene.

With his newest single, Declan Rice, the Native records signee takes his sonic strengths to the stable of West Ham Captain Declan Rice, creating a buzz-worthy jam that re-affirms his enigma.

Produced by Trill Xoe and JohnWav, the song odes to Odumodu’s reassurance of his daredevil approach to life, retelling of his ability to shine in a league of his own. Although typical of Hip Hop’s braggadocio, the song lends credence to the English midfielder who Odumodu believes shares his leadership spirit.

Following the successful rollout and initial acceptance of his previous single, Picanto featuring Zlatan and Ecko Miles, Odumodublvck, fondly called Big Gun, has spread his wings daily on social media (which also heralded his breakout), promoting snippets of Declan Rice. The song, which has received multiple co-signs (organic hype/validation) from stars such as Wizkid, Bnxn, and even the soccer star Declan Rice himself, sees Odumodublvck unapologetically rehash his self-doting, aspirational and comical lyricism once again.

Bred in Lagos and Abuja, Odumodublvck is an Afro-drill rapper, melding influences from Hip Hop, RnB, and indigenous melodies, to create a sonic style he calls ‘Okporoko Music’.

An unapologetic lover of culture, the Delta indigene wears his uniqueness proudly, from his Okpu Agu (Igbo red cap), which he wears on every type of outfit, to his use of indigenous languages, especially Igbo and Yoruba, to his raw narratives about street life, among others.

After promoting himself, alongside a clan of similar Afro-drill acts in Abuja for nearly a decade, he got signed to Native Records, a flagship bohemian record imprint in Lagos and Europe. His debut album under the label is also expected later this year, with guest features from Skepta, Illbliss, Fireboy, Obongjayar, among others.
Declan Rice is available across streaming services.
