When Young Jonn released Dada, the lead single off his just-released Love Is Not Enough (LINE) EP, barely a month ago, the song caught on like a wildfire.

The song’s smoothened sonic texture, coupled with Young Jonn’s butter-like vocals melted the hearts of listeners, and, as far as anyone thought, it was a perfect song.

Now, with the latest remix, featuring the Afro-pop heavyweight, Davido, one question puzzles the mind: how do you get something to sound better than perfect?

The answer to that question lies within yet another question; why do you even want to tamper with perfection? With Davido’s subtle delivery, the re-listening appeal to Dada is amplified, and the record becomes renewed for commercial success.

Already, Dada was a hit record, but Davido’s star factor is the perfect icing on this cake. The vocal chemistry between Davido and Young Jonn was too balanced for coincidence. It reflects Davido’s understanding of song-writing and vocal performance; because neither of the two acts tried to outdo the other; it felt like two streams flowing into each other. It sounded perfect.

While Young Jonn’s Dada remix feels like a perfect Ramadan gift, it actually also illustrates an important reality in the Nigerian music scene, one where the three most-renowned hitmakers (Davido, Burna Boy and Wizkid) have the star-power to amplify the success of every record they feature on. Do they use this tool as often? Not really, although, their impact remains towering on the Nigerian music industry. Nonetheless, duets such as Dada bring out the beauty of perfection.

And, in case you are wondering what is so perfect about Dada, it is actually its sheer soul-stringing simplicity, the kind that gets you to sing along, to think and emote. It is a love song on the surface, but a therapeutic bop if you really look within. And with Davido’s duet, it becomes a less-stressful sight to see.
