Afrotronix, led by guitarist and producer Caleb Rimtobaye, is pioneering Chad’s entry into the global electronic music scene. The group blends traditional Chadian initiation rhythms and vocal expressions with Afro House and electronic music, creating a distinctive pan-African sound they call Saharan Electro—a fusion of ancestral heritage and contemporary innovation.

Raised among griots and shaped by a childhood marked by civil war, Rimtobaye views music as a tool for healing, cultural preservation and intergenerational connection. Through Afrotronix, he reimagines sacred Chadian sounds for modern audiences, transforming tradition into a living, evolving art form.

The group has performed more than 130 times at major international festivals, collaborated with celebrated African artists including Baaba Maal and Youssou N’dour, and earned 18 international awards. Their work has positioned Afrotronix as a leading voice in redefining African electronic music on the global stage.

Afrotronix’s newly released album, KÖD, reflects this expansive vision. The project brings together pan-African collaborations and underscores rhythm as a universal language and fundamental expression of humanity. Spanning 27 tracks across two volumes, the album explores multiple genres while remaining rooted in ancestral codes.

One standout track, Beyond the Sky, featuring Ghanaian reggae-dancehall star Stonebwoy, merges mbalax with reggae dub, delivering an experimental sound infused with Afro-tech elements. The collaboration highlights Afrotronix’s boundary-pushing approach, while Stonebwoy bridges Caribbean basslines with African soul, symbolising the evolving face of African reggae dancehall.

As the first Chadian electronic band to gain international recognition, Afrotronix continues to introduce ancient Sahelian rhythms to global audiences. KÖD, described as a pan-African sonic ritual, uniquely fuses electronic futures with traditional rhythms such as the UNESCO-recognised Gourna and the Chadian Nganja initiation beats.

Through innovation rooted in heritage, Afrotronix is redefining African electronic music—proving that the past and future can coexist in powerful, rhythmic harmony.
