Following a successful maiden edition in 2017, the organisers of Amuwo Games, which aims at empowering young people through sports, have unveiled plans for this year’s edition. Billed to open on November 2 and runs till 24, the competition will be hosted in conjunction with Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos.

Speaking at a media parley held recently in Lagos to herald the games, Seun Ayeni, founder of the sports festival informed that the games will run every weekend in November for residents of the community, adding that cycling and video games were added to further engage the youths.

“Amuwo Games is for residents of Amuwo Odofin LGA. We carefully selected weekends so that we will have people from all walks of life participating, so long as you a resident. The games we will be having are common ones like football, volleyball, basketball, lawn tennis, and table tennis. For athletics, we have 100m men and women and the marathon,” he said.

Aside from board games such as chess and scrabble, the organisers have also introduced a draft this year to accommodate aged participants.

“Registration is open for interested individuals and groups to register online, after which they will be grouped into eight teams depending on the area of residence. We want to create a platform for youth development and communal unity through sports,” he said.

While most of the games will be hosted within Amuwo Odofin LGA, others will take place at the Golden Tulip Lawn Tennis Court, Amuwo Primary School Playground, Chillers Bar at Raji Rasaki, I-Zone Game House in Festac, Purpindo Place in Crystal Estate and Crystal Estate Green Park.
