Arc. Mobolaji Adeola Adeniyi: The Architect of Change Leading with Vision, Building with Integrity

As the 30th President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Arc. Mobolaji Adeola Adeniyi shattered glass ceilings and reshaped the leadership terrain, her tenure marked by a resolute commitment to stability, growth, and forward-thinking governance.

Elected in 2023, she stepped into office with a clear understanding of the Institute’s needs and a determination to restore confidence, strengthen structures, and ensure policy-driven continuity. Under her leadership, the profession experienced renewed momentum, with architects reclaiming their position as master builders and strategic catalysts for national development.

Her administration was anchored on the pioneering U-N-I-T-E Agenda, a framework that defined her purposeful and grace-driven leadership. Through Unity, she fostered cohesion that enabled meaningful progress and impactful advocacy.

With Non-negotiable Integrity, Transparency, and Accountability, governance systems were reinforced and financial discipline restored, laying sustainable foundations for long-term growth. By advancing Inclusivity and Mentorship, she deepened membership engagement, streamlined registration processes, and created clearer pathways for licensure and professional advancement.

Her commitment to Total Integration strengthened collaboration with allied professions, while Empowerment initiatives enhanced capacity and confidence across all cadres of architects.
Under her stewardship, rebuilding matured into structured growth.

Continuing professional development programs were expanded, global alliances strengthened, and institutional infrastructure improved, including the retrofitting of the Lagos Secretariat and the re-inauguration of the Architects Registration Council after a prolonged gap.

Young architects found renewed encouragement within a revitalized Institute, while established professionals reconnected with a body that prioritized excellence, discipline, and service. By the conclusion of her tenure, the NIA stood more structured, more visible, and more institutionally confident, marked by measurable progress and a deliberate ascent to higher heights.

Her impact extended beyond the Institute. Through strategic engagement with governors, policymakers, and institutional leaders, she repositioned architects as essential contributors to national development.

Active participation in the Commonwealth Association of Architects, the International Union of Architects, and the African Union of Architects elevated Nigeria’s voice within the global architectural community.

A product of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1980 and her Master’s degree in 1982, Arc. Mobolaji’s academic excellence laid the foundation for a distinguished career. She lectured at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, from 1984 to 1992, shaping young minds before founding Mobolaji Adeniyi & Associates.

From a modest three-room bungalow office, the firm has grown into a purpose-built storey facility, delivering projects for universities, educational institutions, and government agencies. The practice has become a leadership laboratory — mentoring young architects, managing multidisciplinary teams, and exemplifying competence, integrity, and resilience.

Her journey to the presidency was marked by perseverance in a male-dominated profession. Guided by her belief that positions must be earned on merit, she prepared diligently for leadership and embraced her philosophy of “stooping to conquer,” allowing collaboration, preparation, and performance to speak on her behalf.

Her enduring conviction remains: “Leadership is not entitlement; it is stewardship.” Her counsel to professional women reflects the values she embodies — build competence first, guard your integrity, cultivate resilience, and remember that professionalism has no gender.

Seek positions because you are prepared, and pursue success that sustains both career and family. Now serving as Past President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, (NIA) and the first Commissioner for Africa Union of Architects Commission for Women. Arc. Mobolaji remains committed to impact.

Through her firm, governance advisory engagements, mentorship, authorship, and speaking platforms, she continues to build systems that outlast individuals. Her focus remains purpose-driven service — not titles, but enduring contribution.
