Chidimma Maureen Ekpechi, founder of OUAGART (Once Upon A Girl Art), is redefining the role of art in Nigerian society by blending creativity, wellness, and women’s empowerment. Since launching OUAGART in 2018, she has sought to create spaces where art not only inspires but also heals and connects communities.
“Art is a potent form of medicine, capable of healing, restoring, and connecting people across diverse cultures,” Chidimma said, reflecting on her vision. Her work is rooted in the belief that creative expression can convey emotions and experiences that words often cannot, providing a platform for self-expression, cultural preservation, and holistic wellness.
Chidimma began her career in 2017 as a painter and exhibition developer at the National Council of Museums and Monuments Nigeria, where she gained insights into the societal impact of art. Through OUAGART, she has organised exhibitions, storytelling sessions, and collaborative programs that highlight emerging artists while promoting mental health and community engagement.
Her efforts have extended beyond Nigeria, with exhibitions and collaborations in Turkey (2019), Spain (2021), and Tanzania (2025), enhancing the visibility of Nigerian artists on the global stage. Chidimma is also set to co-host and serve as the lead international exhibiting artist at The Healing Canvas in Lodi, Ohio, in October 2025, further cementing her commitment to art as a bridge across cultures.
“Our aim is to create a platform where art empowers women, fosters cultural exchange, and promotes mental wellness,” she said. With plans to expand OUAGART into a broader art and wellness initiative, Chidimma Maureen Ekpechi continues to transform artistic expression into a catalyst for healing, empowerment, and global cultural dialogue.
