Nile University of Nigeria represents Africa at international business competition in Canada

Nile University of Nigeria has become the first and only African institution to participate in the Annual Scotiabank International Case Competition, held at the Ivey Business School in Ontario, Canada.

The 36th edition of the prestigious competition, one of the world’s longest-running undergraduate business case contests, featured 14 participating universities from the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, and other regions. Nile University was the sole representative from Africa.

The university’s four-member delegation, comprised exclusively of students from the Engineering and Science Faculties, delivered a strong performance, earning commendations from judges and peers. For a competition traditionally dominated by business students, the presence and strong performance of science and engineering students underscored a remarkable achievement. It reflected the effectiveness of Nile University’s world-class education in producing versatile graduates who can adapt across disciplines, think critically in diverse fields, and thrive in global competitive environments.

The team’s success demonstrates that the institution’s academic model goes beyond specialised training to cultivate adaptability, problem-solving agility, and global readiness—qualities that enabled these students to hold their own against top schools from around the world.

The university fully sponsored the students’ participation in the competition, covering their travel, logistics, and welfare. This aligns with its “Beyond Degrees” philosophy, which prioritises practical exposure and international experience to produce globally competitive graduates.

Hosting the students in his office on their return, the Vice-Chancellor of Nile University, Professor Dilli Dogo, FNAMed, DFMC, described their achievement as further evidence of Nile University’s rising global profile. “We are building a university that delivers world-class education on par with the best anywhere in the world,” he said. “Our mandate is to expand what Nigerian students believe is possible and to equip them to compete and contribute globally.”

He added, “Our students must know they are global citizens. Exposure to international environments shapes their confidence, broadens their worldview, and prepares them for leadership.”

During their stay in Canada, the students also engaged in multicultural exchanges with peers from other countries and visited Niagara Falls.

The team’s success underscores the potential within tertiary institutions when talent is supported by visionary leadership and global exposure.
