12 teams ready for Asaba 2023 Bullet Energy Basketball Championship
Twelve teams are expected to participate in the 2023 edition of the Bullet Energy Basketball Championship billed to hold in Asaba, Delta State, in February 2023.
Confirming the next venue of the tournament at the weekend, CEO of the Samuel Oguche Foundation, Samuel Oguche, who partners with the energy drink manufacturer to organise the event, said the championship would unearth more basketball talents from the grassroots.
“The initial idea was to move to Abuja from Lagos, but having put many things into consideration, we have settled for Asaba,” he said.
According to the organisers, 12 teams are expected to compete in both the men and women’s categories in the first week of February. The competition will be rounded off quickly ahead of the general elections in Nigeria.
Oguche thanked the teams, sponsors and media for the last edition of the Bullet Basketball tourney, which was held in Lagos in November, promising that the Asaba edition would be bigger.
“I will like to thank the CEO of Sunmark Ltd, Harmeet Ahuja, the CEO of Bullet Energy Drink, who has been in the forefront of developing the game of basketball in Nigeria and Africa for the past seven years.
“The teams have found the tournament quite helpful to their developmental goals, but we can’t take for granted their availability. We are so grateful that not only have they joyfully identified with the programme, they have always been quite disciplined with all they do with the tournament.”
At the last edition, First Bank Basketball Club defended their trophy in the women’s category, while Kwara Falcons became the new men’s champions.
