Abiodun, Abraham among 60 wrestlers discovered at Epe championship

Ikudehindu Abiodun of Ogunmodede Senior College, Epe and Ochiko Abraham of Army Children Senior High School, Epe emerged winners of the males and females wrestling championship /workshop respectively organised for secondary school students in Epe.

The tournament, staged by the Lagos State Wrestling Association, was held at Odo Obara High School, Epe, during the weekend.

Abiodun placed first in the males’ 50kg category, Tobi Ogunkoya of Odomola Senior Secondary School came second, while the third place went to Ismal Umoru of Community Senior Secondary School.

In the girls’ cadre, Abraham was first in the 50kg freestyle, while Keji Hassan of Alaro Community Senior Secondary School came second and Aishat Famuyiwa of Pobuma Senior Secondary School third.

Abiodun, an SS3 student and winner of the males’ 50kg, received the award for the best male wrestler, while the award for the female category went to Abraham, an SS3 student.

Speaking at the occasion, the Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Adewunmi Ogunsanya, described the performance of the students as overwhelming.

“What we are doing is to focus on grassroots development of sports,” he said.
