Nigeria’s medal hope at the ongoing All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville received a boost on Wednesday, as the country’s medal prospect, Odunayo Adekuoroye, won a bronze medal at this year’s Senior World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S., after completing match results.

Odunayo-AdekuoroyeNigeria’s medal hope at the ongoing All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville received a boost on Wednesday, as the country’s medal prospect, Odunayo Adekuoroye, won a bronze medal at this year’s Senior World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S., after completing match results.

Disclosing this yesterday to The Guardian, the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, said: “Odunayo Adekuoroye completed match results at the 2015 Senior World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada today (Wednesday). “In her match against Russia’s Malysheva, she won 4-3, while she defeated Ukraine’s Liliya Horishna 13-3.

Her loss came against Swedish Mattsson, who beat her in a fall 2-4. Adekuoroye regained her confidence and overcame Belarus’ Nadezhda Shushko in a 10-0 margin. “Her quest for a medal, however, came when she had a pin fall over China’s Zhong and won for herself a bronze medal.

With this feat, the lady has qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.” Expressing his delight over Adekuoroye’s feat, Igali, who is also the chairman, Technical and Development Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), said: “I have every confidence that she will do well in Congo. But my biggest worries are for the Olympics.

I hope as a country we can give this young lioness the needed matches, experience and support to win a medal for us in Rio.” Odunayo, who is scheduled to return to Nigeria today, is, however, expected to travel to Congo Brazzaville for the Games on September 12.
