Competition dunks off March 4
THE African Basketball League (ABL) has agreed a multi-million naira partnership with Nigeria’s number one event center, Landmark, for the competition, which dunks off on March 4.

The deal will enable all 30 home games to be played in the first season in Nigeria at Landmark and All Star Weekend Centre.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of ABL, Ugo Udezue, the deal is important to Nigeria because bringing the best African basketball teams to the country will help create more awareness to the dunking game

“This is the first of its kind in the history of private sports in Africa… our goal is to provide a safe and socially conducive entertaining environment with basketball as the epicenter. The ABL will ‘’unite Africans through sports,’’ he said.
The African Basketball League, billed to commence next month, will future six teams playing in four countries. The first game will be between the Lagos Islanders playing away against Libreville Izobe of Gabon.

Six strong basketball clubs have already been confirmed for the debut season with Lagos Islanders, Stallions and Dodan Warriors as the Nigerian teams contesting in the league.

Other African clubs in the league are Dakar Rapids from Senegal, Abidjan Ramblers from Cote d’Ivoire and Izobe Basketball Club from Libreville, Gabon.

According to the league organisers, ABL has built a multi-million naira infrastructure to raise the Landmark capacity to over 4,000 seater in preparation for the season.

The games will be transmitted live on Trace TV and match updates on BeatFM, they said, adding that tickets can be purchased at select Union Bank Branches in Lagos.
