AMINA Wilfred of IBB Golf and Country Club, who won the Fourth Jaji Ladies Open Golf Tournament, has set her eyes on getting more laurels before the end of the year.

An elated Wilfred said after grossing 174 to beat the pack at the Ola Saad Ibrahim Golf Course, Jaji, that she would continue to work on her game to maintain her position at the top of the ladder.

“Thank God I won. Last year I finished as runner-up, went and prepared and thank God this year I was tops. I will continue to work hard so that next year I can defend the title,” she said.

At the highly competitive event, Frank Chinyere, also of IBB Club, emerged second best gross (179 gross), just as Ivy Achir of the Kaduna Golf Club came third with 190 gross.

Blessing Adakole of the St. Mark Golf Club Oturkpo had the Best Nett with 154 nett, followed by Vera David of the Zaria Golf Club with 158 nett.

In the senior caddies’ category, Segun Afolabi picked best gross over nine holes with 42, while Sariamu Abdullahi with 44 was runner-up.

Speaking on her experience at the event, Chinyere Frank, “I came here to win and though I am happy I finished second, Amina was lucky she won,” she said.

Over 140 golfers from 28 clubs across the country took part in the tournament, which success Lady Captain of the club, Rachael Danjuma, said was due to their sponsors’ support.

“To our patrons, a word is not enough to say thank you for your support and encouragement. Without you, this event would not have been possible. Permit me to mention Major General C.O. Okoro, GOC 1 DIV Kaduna, DY Commandant AFCSC Rear Admiral S.A.G. Abbah and Commandant NAKPC Major General Birigeni,” she said.
