Folasade Ajala of Ogbomosho Golf Club has won the second Seyi Makinde Women Support Golf tournament with her 99 gross and 76 net proving too good for her opponents at the one-day event held at the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC).

The tournament held at the weekend was designed to create awareness and encourage more women into the game, according to Ronke Adepetu, the tournament initiator.

Adepetu commended the sponsor for keeping to his words, saying, “the first edition of this tourney was held a few weeks before the last general elections where Engr. Seyi Makinde contested as governorship aspirant. He promised to make it an annual event, and here we are today witnessing a more colourful tournament,” Adepetu noted.

Makinde in his remarks said the competition has come to stay, promising that next year’s edition will attract more professional golfers in order to add glamour to the tournament.

“A lot of people thought we only organised that of the last edition because of my political ambition but it goes beyond that. Golf has nothing to do with politics, but a very good avenue to engage in sporting activities.

“This tournament is going to be a continuous exercise as we are ready to sustain it over the years.“I am a complete sport person, apart from playing golf; I also used to play tennis. And we are going to see how we can support other sport in our own little way,” he noted.
