Ajiboye, Osanga kick over alleged order by Warri Wolves to forfeit five months’ pay

‘Delta to complete Asaba Stadium soon’
Goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye and winger, King Osanga have rejected the alleged plot by the management of relegated Warri Wolves to seize their five-month salaries following their decision to quit the club.

Also allegedly affected by the plot are Monday Osagie, Kelvin Njoku, Kelvin Itoya, Sikiru Alimi, John Odumegu,
Semiu Liadi and Solomon Okpako.

Ajiboye disclosed that he has spoken to Delta State Sports Commissioner,Tony Okowa, who demanded that the goalkeeper let go his five months salaries so that he could be given his clearance.

“I spoke to the commissioner, Tony Okowa and he told me that I need to give up my salaries before Warri Wolves will give me my release letter,” the former Shooting Stars and Nasarawa United goalkeeper said.

“But I will not do that because I worked for my money and need it. I played for Warri Wolves with injury and pains and now they are saying they will not pay me for all those months I worked.

“I also need my letter of release for me to formally join Plateau United. If that will not be forthcoming, I will take my case to the NFF and LMC because they simply want to cheat me,” he said.

Ajiboye also claims that Warri Wolves are yet to pay him an agreed N3 million for his clearance when he joined them last season.

Meanwhile, the Delta State government has assured that the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, will be completed next year.

The chairman of Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, who made the revelation in his budget defence before the State House of Assembly Committee on Youths and Sports, blamed the delay in completing the stadium on internal politics.

According to him, the delay was also due to the government’s decision to harmonize the various interests involved in the construction and execution processes.

He said, “Delta State is a sports state. We have proved our mettle in the sports world one time too many. We cannot fail now and we will not fail.

“The sports commission will not do anything to embarrass the state and will work hard to maintain the lead.

“We are already training our amateur teams from whence they will be selected for the main teams. We are working very hard, I mean tooth and nail, to bring back Warri Wolves from relegation,” Okowa added.

Responding, the chairman, House Committee on Youths and Sports, Emeka Nwaobi, frowned at the loss of 16 players from the state’s team and described the moves as bad business for Delta State.

The chairman, who spoke alongside other members of the committee including Evans Ivwurie and Eric Oharisi, stated that Delta State had always been at the forefront of sports in the country and the world at large, adding that the house was ever committed to making laws that would develop sports in the state.
