Babalola, Lawal Lead Teams To NCC North, South Challenge
Abdulmumuni Babalola and Shehu Lawal will lead their respective teams to the South versus North Nigeria Communications Commission’s (NCC) Tennis Challenge scheduled for the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, tomorrow. The challenge is the forerunner to the NCC Tennis League scheduled for the same venue.
Aside Babalola, also in the South team selected by Coach Abel Ubiebi are Clifford Enosoregbe, Nonso Madueke and Joseph Imeh for the men and Christy Agugbom, Sarah Adegoke, Anu Aiyegbusi, Ronke Akingbade and Lizzy Osaremen Airhunwunde for the women.
The North team, led by Coach Ubale Mohammed and Benson Isiecheli, with Babatunde Abe as assistant coach, also includes Moses Michael, Henry Atseye, Christian Paul and Emmanuel Sunday for the men and Blessing Samuel, Melissa Ifidze, Blessing Anuna and Angel Mcleod for the ladies.
The context will feature four men’s singles, three women’s singles and a mixed doubles.
According to the ITA, organisers of the Tennis League, most of the matches will precede the formal ceremonies, which begin at 2.00 p.m. on Sunday at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.
The opening launch will also showcase traditional dances and skill display from other sports.
The NCC Tennis League is offering N13 million as prize money to the top four teams at the end of the context and will inject 30 weeks of tennis into the Nigerian tennis calendar.
Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, is the special guest of honour.
