Badagry Angels win NBSA Softball Junior Championship

Badagry Angels at the weekend won the U-12 and U-15 Softball tournament held at Ibereke Barracks, Badagry.

The championship, organised by the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA), was put together to create more awareness in baseball and softball in the grassroots, as well churn out more talents from their formative stage in the sport.

Over nine teams from Lagos, Oyo, sporting bet Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory took part in the six-day event.

The teams include NAOWA Hitters, Kwara Slidders, Sabo Wuse, sport betting in nigeria Oluyole Plate Burners, Adekalu Bulls, and Badagry Angels.

Speaking at the championship, General Secretary of  NBSA, Kehinde Laniyan, who represented the federation’s president, William Boyd, said the championship would help build the spirit of competition and friendship among the young players, banker bet of the day who came from different parts of the country to take part in the event.

“The softball championship was organised to reignite the spirit of grooming and discovering young players on Softball and baseball from the grassroots.

“The association has affiliation with some schools to encourage students take part in the sport. Softball is played by girls, online betting while baseball is mostly geared towards the adult men.

“Our goal is to keep promoting baseball and softball development in Nigeria. If not for COVID-19 fears, so many teams would have honoured the event.”

He disclosed that the NBSA will organise different championships this year across the country, online betting site adding, “starting from May 25 in Ilorin, a senior baseball tourney will hold in Lagos.

“The NBSA is also in line to start a semi-professional league. Our core values is to take softball and baseball to the global level.”

Also speaking after the competition, Badagry Angels Little League President, Bola Rashedat Abdulraham, who helped NBSA in sponsoring the competition, called on retired sport stars to come together and support the development of sports in Nigeria through sponsoring different events across the Federation.
