Baseball, Softball Association to rejig for 2016
THE Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA) says it will do everything possible to reposition the sport to put it on the right track in the coming year.
Deliberating on the way forward for the body at an executive meeting held in Ilorin at the weekend, the association in a statement by its president, Mr. Victor Fingesi on Tuesday revealed its determination to look outward for support to enhance the sport in the country.
According to Fingesi, “getting support to organise programmes is a major challenge and we understand the current situation in the country. Most of the sports in Nigeria are facing the same challenge.
“The only way we can conquer this is to look outward and get support in any form from countries that are actively involved in baseball and softball.”
Explaining further, he said: “Ghana, for instance, is getting support from Japan in baseball and softball, nothing stops Nigeria from doing the same thing.
“So, in 2016 we will be looking outward for support to move this sport forward.”
Also speaking on the state of the sport, Vice-President of Softball and wife of the Kwara State Deputy Governor, Felicia Kisira, urged members of the association to remain dedicated to the objective of NBSA.
Kisira, while explaining that it was only through collective effort that the sport could be given a new lease of life, added: “We have a lot to do as members of this board and the only way we can be successful is to work in one accord to actualise our goal.”
