Belinda Bencic, currently ranked No. 14, says the highlight of her year was upsetting world number one, Serena Williams in Toronto. Williams had only lost one match all season going into their semifinal.

I think the proudest moment is that I managed to beat Serena, that’s still something that is like, ‘really?’ I think it will always be a moment I’ll never forget for sure because I worked so hard for it,” Bencic told Sport360.
“I personally didn’t think I could do it, I didn’t believe it, I didn’t think it could be possible.”

The 18-year-old Swiss went on to win the tournament, beating Eugenie Bouchard, Caroline Wozniacki, Sabine Lisicki, Ana Ivanovic, Williams and Simona Halep.

Regarding the upcoming season, Bencic said she isn’t sure whether or not she will play mixed doubles at the Rio Olympics with Stan Wawrinka.

Switzerland’s Roger Federer and Martina Hingis have confirmed that they will team up in the mixed event.
“A lot of people are asking me this but I cannot decide this. I’m ready to play singles and I’m playing doubles with Martina and for mixed, I hope, I will be ready but it’s not decided yet,” she said.
“I don’t know when I’ll find out. It’s in the hands of Stan or from the people who organize this. I haven’t talked to anyone about it.”
