Bola Ige, Newland schools win Adekunle Ayoola five-a-side championship

The championship, which was organised by the executive chairman of Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA, Adekunle Ayoola, was filled with excitement, but at the end of the day, Bola Ige Secondary School beat Ifelodun Senior High School 2-1 to be crowned boys’ champions, while in the girls’ category, Newland beat Ijeromi Ifelodun Secondary School by penalty kicks to become champions.

Speaking after the final round of matches that featured over 70 private and public primary and secondary schools, the sponsor, Ayoola said the competition was organised to identify talents and also take children
off the streets of Ajegunle.

“The LGA built the synthetic pitch and basketball court to enable children hone their skills after school hours.

“The environment is safe for them as the camera inside the floodlights can enable me see anything that is happening on the pitch from my office and also the police station,” he said.

Ayoola promised that the council would not stop building sporting facilities in Ajegunle, which has 78 schools, which is the highest in a single locality in Lagos State.

“We call on private bodies to join us in developing sports in Ajegunle, which has over the years produced talents. By next year, the LGA will start a schools league,” he added.
