Former Flying Eagles manager, John Obuh, has called on football stake holders in the country to shun the act of castigating players and coaches any time they fail to deliver in a particular championship ,saying that over dependence of trophies is one of the major problems affecting football development in Nigeria.

Speaking on the fall out of the Eagles team B early exit at the ongoing Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), taking place in Rwanda, Obuh noted that the incessant castigation and calling for the sack of coach Sunday Oliseh, because the team failed to win the Africa championship was not necessary at this period the Eagles are going through revamping process.

He declared that coach Oliseh needed time to discover more credible players who will qualify Nigeria for the 2017 Nations Cup and World Cup. The erstwhile U-17 coach wondered why some people will be clamoring for the sack of the former Super Eagles captain who he said has not been performing badly since taking charge of the Super Eagles. Obuh charged the Nigeria Football Federation to explore more means to assist Oliseh achieve is set goals instead of yielding to the speculations of sacking the Eagles boss.

“ I don’t understand why any time any Nigeria coach fail to deliver in a particular tournament ,people call for the coach sack. This is one of the factors dragging the county back in the area of football development. Eagles early ouster in CHAN should not be used as a standard to sack Oliseh.Infact the championship has open the eyes of the coach to see some anomalies in the team. I don’t think the team performance in CHAN will by any means affect the Eagles chances of getting the 2017 Nations cup ticket. All the Eagles coaches need is to go back the drawing board and strategies for the challenges ahead. In other climes coaches don’t get sack with out giving enough time to work with players , this is why they are succeeding ,’’he said.
