Despite poor runs, Crocodiles vow to upset Super Eagles

Despite having been eliminated from the Cameroun 2022 African Cup of Nations, the Crocodiles of Lesotho are talking tough ahead of today’s clash with the Super Eagles in Lagos.
 
The Crocodiles drew 0-0 with Sierra Leone in Maseru on Saturday, a result which ended their dream of joining the big team party to Cameroun in January 2022.
 
The failure notwithstanding, the Crocodiles sound confident of creating an upset against the Super Eagles this afternoon when the Nigerians make their first competitive appearance in Lagos after 20 years.
 
An official of the team said yesterday that the Crocodiles would give the Eagles a rude shock this afternoon.
 

The Crocodiles have been in camp for three weeks preparing for Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
 
While the Crocodiles want to upset their more illustrious opponents, the Super Eagles are looking forward to a colourful house party at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos today.
 
Substitute Paul Onuachu’s last-gasp bullet header secured all the points in the last game against Benin Republic to restore Nigeria’s winning mentality and condemn the Squirrels to a dogfight with the Leone Stars in their own encounter in Freetown also today.
 
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State is expected to lead the dignitaries to today’s encounter, with his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Sports and Youth Development Minister, Sunday Dare, and the permanent secretary in the ministry, Mr. Nebolisa Anako also expected.
 
NFF President and Nigeria’s new member of the FIFA Council, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick will lead the football family bigwigs to the match.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has picked Cape Verde official, Fabricio Duarte, to take charge of proceedings, as referee with his compatriots Jorge Correia Semedo Helio (assistant 1), Delgado Fernandes Wilson Jorge (assistant referee 2) and Antonio Manuel Fortes Tony Rodrigues (fourth official) also on duty.

The match commissioner is Haruna Mawanda from Uganda, while Nick Owusu from Ghana will serve as security officer.
