FORMER Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh, believes the national U-20 team has the pedigree to win the forthcoming FIFA Junior World Cup, which begins in New Zealand this month. But he believes that would only happen if the Coach Manu Garba-led team fought hard to win every game at the Mundial.

Obuh, who told The Guardian that Nigeria’s cadet teams have been able to earn impressive results in the past editions of the U-20 championship because most of the players wanted to prove their worth and push their career to the senior level, advised Coach Garba to give all the players equal opportunity to fight for shirt in the team.

According to Obuh, picking the right players would assist the coach to succeed when contending with technically organized teams.

He commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for organizing a training tour of Germany for the team, adding that the exposure would help instill more confidence in the players.

“I am delighted the boys will train in Germany ahead of the World Cup because it will give the players the chance to get more exposed. The Flying Eagles should understand that the World Cup is different from the African championship. They need to be mentally focused to contend favorably with tough oppositions. There are promising players in the Flying Eagles team that can make Nigerians proud in New Zealand,” he said.
