DR Congo withdraws from AFCON U-17, U-20 qualifiers
The Fédération of Congolese Football Associations (FECOFA) has notified the Confédération of African Football (CAF) of the withdrawal of its two national teams from the qualifiers of its continental championships.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the qualifiers are those of the under-17 and under-20 continental championships scheduled for 2017.
According to a letter from FECOFA to CAF, DR Congo will no longer face Burundi in the qualifiers for the 20th U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Zambia in 2017.
They were due to face Burundi in the First Round, but their opponents have now qualified to the Second Round.
NAN reports that Burundi will now host Nigeria on May 20 in the first leg, and visit Nigeria on June 10 for the second leg.
For the 12th U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON U-17) scheduled for Madagascar in 2017, Chad has now qualified for the Second Round following DR Congo’s withdrawal.
