Despite losing 69-86 to Brazil in their last group game at the ongoing Rio Olympics, the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), says that the D’Tigers have a brighter future in the dunking game.

The NBBF has told basketball followers in the country not to write off the team completely.Speaking with The Guardian, NBBF spokes man, Patrick Omorodion, stated that the Africa champions were able to demonstrate they are among the top basketball teams in the world going by the narrow loss to Argentina, Lithuania and Spain before beating Croatia at the Rio Olympics basketball event.

He said the players would achieve remarkable feat in the game of basketball in the nearest future.Omorodion added that the federation would not relent in its effort in promoting basketball, adding that the country had abundant talents within and outside that can bring light to both the male and female national teams.

“Anybody that was expecting a medal from the male basketball team in Rio will be asking for too much. This is their second spell at the Olympics. We believe that the team is still progressing at the world level when looking at our 25th ranking in global basketball.

“The D‘Tigers have showed that Nigeria is improving in world basketball base on the points difference between them and their opponents in Rio. Also the foreign-based players commitment so far in international assignments is a reflection that the D’Tigers are hungry to make a mark in the dunking game. NBBF would continue to work hard to change the phase of basketball in Nigeria,’’ he said.
