Edo commissioner seeks royal support for Okpekpe Road Race
EDO State Commissioner for Sports, Priestly Ediagbony, has appealed to the traditional ruler of Okpekpe Kingdom, HRH Abalume Osigbemeh, to support the upcoming Okpekpe Road Race slated for next Saturday.
The commissioner made the appeal when he led other members of the Local Organizing committee (LOC) for the third edition of race on a courtesy visit to his Palace.
Ediagbonya commended the Okpekpe monarch and his chiefs for their encouragement and support for the two previous editions of the road race and sued for its sustenance.
The commissioner, who had earlier taken a tour of the facilities put in place for the event, including accommodation for the athletes and the ceremonial pavilion, assured the monarch that traditional dancers from the community would be incorporated into the programme to entertain guests during the exercise.
Osigbemeh had while assuring the commissioner of his support and those of his subject for the road race solicited the inclusion of traditional dancers from Okpekpe among groups to perform during the race.
The commissioner was accompanied on the visit by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Adams Oshiomhole on Mobilization, Comrade Victoria Amu, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Women Empowerment, Comrade Rabi Egujie, as well as their counterpart on Sports, Sixtus Omokhaghor, among others.
Meanwhile, a few days to the Okpekpe International 10-kilometre Road Race, commercial activities in the community and its environs has picked up.
