Nigeria’s flagbearer in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, Edo Queens FC of Benin City, were on Friday, pooled alongside defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Tutankhamun of Egypt and CBE FC of Ethiopia in Group B.
The draw for the finals of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League was made in Morocco on Friday. Edo Queens, who are the current Nigeria National Women’s League winner, will begin their campaign in the finals against CBE FC of Ethiopia before meeting Tutankhamun of Egypt and they will close the group stage with a tantalizing encounter against two time winners and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
In Group A, AS FAR of Morocco have a date to keep with University of Western Cape of South, alongside Africa Aigles de la Medina of Senegal and TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Edo Queens and four other teams, including Aigles de la Medina of Senegal, University of Western Cape of South Africa, CBE FC of Ethiopia and Tutankhamun of Egypt are making their debut in the competition.
The 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League finals is scheduled to hold between November 9 and 23 in Morocco.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Edo Sports Commission, Olympian Yusuf Alli, has said that Governor Godwin Obaseki is willing to give players and officials of Edo Queens all they need to conquer in the competition.
Alli told The Guardian shortly after the draws for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League finals were made that he is optimistic Edo Queens will make Nigerians proud.
