Enugu government committed to sports development, says Ugwuanyi

Enugu State goveror, UgwuanyiGovernor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has expressed his administration’s commitment to support sports activities in order to return the state to its glorious days, as breeding ground for celebrated sports personalities in the country

Speaking while declaring open the 2016 edition of the Nigerian Police Games for Zone 9 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium,
Enugu, Ugwuanyi said the vision to engage the youths positively, create jobs and market Enugu State remained the cardinal objective of his administration.

While commending the Nigerian Police through the Zone 9 headquarters for the worthy initiative to organise the event, Ugwuanyi assured of his administration’s readiness to continue to partner and provide necessary cooperation and assistance that would help produce first class athletes capable of doing the country proud in global sports circles.

Earlier, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 9, AIG Usman A Gwary had noted that the Nigerian Police remained a veritable pillar of sports development in Nigeria.

Gwary commended the tremendous support the Enugu State Government and other states of the South East had accorded the Police to ensure the success of the games, adding that the history of sports in Nigeria would not be complete without the mention of the Nigerian Police.

He regretted that in recent times, Nigeria’s fortunes in sports have dwindled because the Police Force Games have not been regular, but expressed happiness that the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has reinvigorated the games.

The AIG charged all competitors in the games to play by the rules and regulations, reminding them that discipline remained the bedrock of the Force.
