Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu, has described the return of the team’s immediate past captain, Vincent Enyeama, to the squad as a boost to the country’s bid to qualify for the Gabon 2017 African Nations Cup.

raising the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for wading into the rift between Coach Sunday Oliseh and Enyeama, Shorunmu noted that the Eagles needed to be committed and united to succeed in their quest to excel in future engagements, adding that if the Eagles coach picked the right players Nigeria would qualify for the 2017 Nations Cup.

“I am delighted the NFF has been able to settle the rift between Enyeama and Oliseh. Unity is needed in the Eagles to achieve success. Enyeama retired from the national team because of the rift between him and coach Oliseh.

“Assuming he was prepared to retire this soon, he would not have joined the team in Belgium. I don’t know what transpired between him and the coach; but I believe the NFF has done a good job by settling the matter. Enyeama is still needed in the Eagles, ‘’ he said.

Enyeama, who was removed as captain of the team, stormed out of the Eagles’ camp on last Tuesday following a disagreement he had with Coach Oliseh. He subsequently announced his retirement from the national team.

However, he returned to the team following the intervention of the NFF top brass, who felt that a player that served Nigerian for 13 years with 101 caps deserved a better exit from the team.

Enyeama has since pledged to continue to play for Nigeria as long as the country needs him.

This is a wrong decision Eyeama for making a u turn after your announcement to the whole world about your retirement. This might come back to hurt you, your former coach Keshi is a good and recent example.
