Sports Journalists Honours Late Oyatogun’s Wife In Lagos

Few days after leading the Super Falcons to win the 10th African Women’s Nations Cup in Cameroon, Coach Florence Omagbemi and members of her family will today bid their late father, Pa Omagbemi, farewell in Warri, Delta State.

Coach Omagbemi is the second African female footballer to win the African Nations Cup as a player and a coach. She captained the team for over 14 years, winning the Nations Cup title four times and featuring at the FIFA World Cup four times. She also led Nigeria to the soccer event at Sydney 2000 Olympics Games.

Pa Aaron Omagbemi (AKA Oghoyon) died few weeks before the coach came from her base in the United States to commence preparation of the Super Falcons for the 2016 Nations Cup.

While in Cameroon, the coach vowed to win the Nations Cup trophy as last respect for her late father. She did it. The burial will take place at Orugbo in Warri South Local Government Area beginning at 10.00 am today.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has concluded plans to honour the late wife of veteran sports caster, Walter Oyatogu.

SWAN Chairman, Fred Edoreh said the late wife of Walter Oyatogun was a big inspiration to the husband who died two years ago, hence Mrs. Paula that died at age 60 on October 29, 2016 deserved to be celebrated by sports Journalist through a novelty football match at the legacy pitch of the National Stadium, Lagos on Wednesday, December 14, 2016.
