FIFA-licensed football agent Drew Uyi has commended the ongoing renovation and remodelling of the Warri City Stadium, describing the project as a remarkable initiative by the Delta State Government that will positively reposition Nigeria on the global football map.

The London-based agent, who visited Warri at the invitation of the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onos Oborevwori, embarked on an inspection tour of the upgraded facility.

He was conducted around the stadium by the project manager, Engr. Femi James, alongside the Delta sports boss, with journalists in attendance.

From the access roads leading to the stadium to the main bowl, Uyi inspected key areas, including the newly cultivated lush green pitch—planted about four weeks ago by experts from Morocco—the players’ dressing rooms, VIP lounge, mixed zone, expanded press area, control room, waiting areas, training pitch, and an indoor sports hall currently under construction.

Speaking during the tour, Engr. James disclosed that the remodelling project began 11 months ago, with initial completion scheduled for year-end. However, he noted that the current pace of work suggests the project could be completed by mid-year.

He added that the quality of construction would position Warri Stadium among the best FIFA-rated stadiums in Nigeria.
“Indeed, this stadium will rank highly due to the strict adherence to required procedures and standards,” he said.

James further emphasized that the Delta State Government, through the Sports Commission, has provided adequate funding and a conducive environment for seamless execution.

He also praised the support of the host community.
“The conditions here are favourable, and we are on track to deliver the project smoothly and on schedule. The stadium’s security network is extensive, with cameras capable of monitoring activities up to 10 kilometres away, and provision for expansion to 20 kilometres,” he added.

In his remarks, Uyi described the project as a well-executed initiative, highlighting the infrastructure, drainage systems, spectator facilities, security framework, playing surface, and media facilities as meeting FIFA standards.

“This is an impressive work in progress. The Delta State Government’s commitment to positioning Warri Stadium for global visibility is deliberate and aligns with a forward-thinking vision,” he said.

Providing further assessment, Uyi stated:
“Today, I conducted a comprehensive inspection of Warri Stadium in the company of Onos Oborevwori and site manager Femi James.

Following a detailed evaluation, we can confirm that the pitch meets FIFA standards and is in excellent playing condition. The surface quality, drainage system, and overall maintenance are of top international standard, making it suitable for high-level competitive football.

“In addition, all critical infrastructure and supporting facilities were thoroughly assessed. Spectator areas, team facilities, and operational systems are well-maintained and aligned with modern expectations.

Notably, the security architecture and crowd control measures meet best-practice standards, ensuring a safe environment for players, officials, and fans.”

Following the inspection, the delegation expressed strong confidence in the stadium’s readiness to host top-tier matches and major sporting events.
“The collaborative efforts of the Delta State Sports Commission and the project team continue to position Warri Stadium as a key hub for football development and sporting excellence in Nigeria,” Uyi added.

Uyi, who is also an international brand expert, noted that the successful inspection underscores a shared commitment to maintaining world-class sports infrastructure and promoting football development in the region.
